The Film School (Școala de film) was born from a simple observation: in Romania, there are still too few accessible paths for people who want to learn film outside the traditional system.

We believed there had to be another way.

A way in which film education could remain serious and demanding, while becoming more open, more human, and more connected to the realities of contemporary filmmaking.

The Film School complements Romania’s existing film education landscape by creating a different point of entry into cinema.

Many of our students do not arrive at 18 years old. They come after years spent in other professions, after building careers, raising families, travelling, succeeding, failing, and gathering the kind of life experience that often becomes the foundation of meaningful stories. They come because they feel they have something to say and are looking for a place where they can learn how to say it through film.

Today, The Film School brings together a teaching team of 16 active industry professionals - directors, actors, screenwriters, producers, cinematographers, editors, and casting directors. Their collective work includes hundreds of films, theatre productions, television projects, and international co-productions recognised at major festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Warsaw, Sarajevo, Karlovy Vary and TIFF.

Students can study acting, directing, and screenwriting while working directly with professionals who continue to make films today. The emphasis is placed on practice, mentorship, collaboration, and the development of original projects from the very beginning.

Beyond working directly with experienced professionals, and developing their own projects, our students learn how cinema is built above all through collaboration.

Beyond the classroom, The Film School has grown into a community where emerging directors, actors, and writers meet, collaborate, and grow together.

Over the years, students and graduates have gone on to create films, join professional productions, and take their first real steps into cinema.

Main achievements so far

Since its beginnings, The Film School has helped aspiring actors, writers, directors, and filmmakers transform their passion into real opportunities and professional achievements.

Among our recent accomplishments:

• Adriana Neagoe, a graduate of our screenwriting programme, received CNC funding for her feature screenplay Ela, the very first screenplay she had ever written, demonstrating how student projects can continue their journey well beyond the classroom.

• Miruna Ursache's graduation short film Pigeons on the Rooftop (2024) went on to receive 7 international festival selections and 3 awards (Best International Short Award at Chicago Shorts and BELIFF International Film Fest London, and Public Award at Tokyo Lift-Off Film Festival).

• 16 students and graduates of The Film School became part of the team behind You Don't Belong Here (2026), the new feature film directed by Florin Șerban, having the opportunity to apply on a real film set what they learned throughout the film classes, and work with an experienced film director.

• Lavinia Mănescu secured the leading role in A mind in Chaos (2025), feature film, taking an important step into the professional film industry. Lavinia recently won Best Actress Award in a feature film at the Sykehouse Film and Writers Festival.

• Oana Hănțoiu, a graduate of our Acting programme, obtained a major role in the television series Ana, You Were Written in My DNA, taking an important step into the professional film and television industry.

• Alex Olteanu won the Full Moon Screenwriting Contest at TIFF with a screenplay developed during his studies at The Film School.

• The Grand Finale (2026), the first short film directed by Rares Roșca, directing module graduate, was selected for the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF), one of the most important film festivals in Romania.

Beyond awards and professional recognition, our greatest achievement remains the community we have built: a place where future filmmakers, actors, writers, and creators learn, grow, collaborate, and take their first meaningful steps into cinema.
