The City's Song - The Tehran Sessions

Album recordings

About the project

AMAZING! We have reached our initial goal of 5000€! Thank you so much to everyone who supports our project.

Donations are still very welcome. It's not easy to make a living as a musician. The coronacrisis has had a huge impact on all artists which makes it even more important to make sure we can pay our musicians and others correctly. We will use the extra budget for this but it will also be used to cover some of the costs for the live tour we are organising next year.

Two musicians from Ghent travel to Tehran city and meet musicians on location. Together they make a contemporary musical portret of the city.

The City’s Song is a cultural and artistic exploration project around the world, with a focus on places that are currently relevant in one way or another. We meet local songwriters and musicians, examine cultural differences, try to deny stereotypes but above all create new music. The City’s Song sets up collaborations and exchanges and brings a journalism with music as the language and image as the carrier.

To date, we are working on The Tehran Sessions.

The musicians of The City's Song - The Tehran Sessions are Thomas Noël, Farnoosh Khodadadeh en Soroosh Ghahramanloo. Moviemaker Jonatan Lyssens follows the whole proces and produces his own “song” of the city. The end result will consist of an album, a concert movie, a photo exhibition and a live tour. A first visit to Teheran lies behind us and in February 2020 Soroosh came to Ghent to continue working on the music. Click here to see some pictures.

With our crowdfunding we collect money for the next phase of our project: in November Soroosh will come back to Belgium to finish the album. More specifically we will use the money to rent a studio, to pay a sound technician for mixing and mastering, to cover the travel and accommodation of Soroosh costs and to print the cd.

The Tehran Sessions are a production by Frontiera vzw, Thomas Noël is the artistic director. The previous episode of The City’s Song was The Ramallah Sessions. To see the result click here and here.

What are the funds for?

With this crowdfunding we will cover these costs:

  • Plane tickets Teheran-Brussels-Teheran for Soroosh
  • Accommodation in Belgium for Soroosh
  • Rent studio
  • Soundtechnician
  • Mixing and Mastering CD
  • Production CD

5000€ is the minimum we will need for this.
