24 hours West of Denver

A photo book on the American West

About the project

The American West inspired artists for generations, from writers to painters, directors... It was time for me to go there and bring back my own vision of it.

Seen as an homage to the works of Edward Hopper, John Ford or Gregory Crewdson, this photo book features some of the best photographs I took in the USA. It tells the story of the American West today, through its ambiance, from large vistas to tiny details

A true photograph only exists on paper, and that's why I'm happy to sell beautiful fine art prints. However I work on series of photographs, and it is both impractical and uneconomical to buy and show hundreds of photographs in your own home! So to highlight the narrative, the coherence of my series "24 hours West of Denver", I decided to release the whole collection as a book.

A book that would tell the story of a mythical America, from sunrise to sunset. I wanted to celebrate the vastness and diversity of the landscapes of the American West, its wide open spaces but also their smaller cities in the Vacancy Cities series, an homage to Edward Hopper and Greg Crewdson.

What are the funds for?

Today, art book publishers are playing it safe and cutting corners. For this first book, I wanted to create a beautiful object, that I would be proud to showcase, and I wanted it to be made ethically: this won't be printed in China like most books, it will be 100% made in France. This will allow optimum quality, and I will be able to control the whole process.

The book is ready. Crowdfounding can seem like an unsafe bet, but I didn't want to promise anything I couldn't deliver. I've met the printer already, and they are ready to launch. This is more a preorder of a limited edition book: 500 copies only, 50 of which are collector editions, signed and numbered.

NOTE: the book has one page of French writings in it but it will come with an additional pamphlet with professional translation to English. The pictures, well... they stay the same :)

Money from the crowdfounding will only help finance the printing process. If, thanks to you, we manage to gather more, then I could finance more photo books!

I also wanted to give you more than a book: that's why you will be able to order, in exclusivity, fine art prints from pictures from the book. These special prints will be handmade by me, on 310g Ilford papers, and will come with a certificate of authenticity, numbered and signed.

About the project owner

A photographer and director, I travel around the world to find the most amazing landscapes, but also the subtler ones. My work is shown in several galleries in Paris, the exhibit of my pictures of the American West gave me the idea of gathering the best ones into a book, to tell the story and the diversity of this great country, from sunrise to sunset.

24 Hours West of Denver will be my first printed book however, it is not my first publication: I run a web magazine called Déjà Vu, and I released a book digitally about the colors of Hong Kong, ROYGBIV. You can find all my published work here.
