Alice Ferriere's first album - CD "NUIT EXQUISE"

A journey in melodies in the heart of the night (in French & in German) - Berlioz "Les Nuits d'été", Schumann "Opus 90" …

About the project

This project began to take shape in 2017. The theme of the night was gradually drawn. A choice of about twenty melodies, mixing French and German languages (Lieder). It's about miniatures, small pictures put in words, colors and music, proposing a journey in the middle of the night. The two main works that structure the album are Hector Berlioz's "Les nuits d'été" and Robert Schumann's "Opus 90". They are framed by melodies and lieder of Debussy, Nadia Boulanger, Poldowski, Hahn, Franck, Strauss.

"Nuit exquise" theme conducive to confidence. It is easier to get naked in the dim light, by the light of the sweet stars of the night. To speak from heart to heart, soul to soul. The night also reveals absence, lack, mourning.  Emotions spring up and sometimes overwhelm us: in the light of the moon, time suddenly stops: a moment of ecstasy appears between the tears where hope, reconstruction seems possible.

Since childhood I have loved telling stories to the moon and stars, poems and colors, touching the hearts of others, heal if possible .... A wish for children to bring out the poetry and beauty of world.

Where is Reunion island in all this will you tell me? It will be necessary to listen to it, I will answer you, because it is distilled everywhere in the colors, the perfumes, that my eyes and my senses have captured, assimilated then infused with these miniatures in poems, become in fact a little « creoles".

Concert " Quand la nuit n'est pas étoilée..." given last february in Maison Martin-Valliamée in Saint-André on Reunion Island as part of the pedagogical program "Danse-moi, chante-moi, conte-moi, dessine-moi un poème ou un air d'opéra", aimed at introducing lyrical singing to elementary and secondary school classes.

About the project owner

The french mezzo-soprano Alice Ferrière grew up in Reunion Island where she received from the age of seven her first musical education at the  music conservatory . After a master's degree in political history at the Sorbonne, she devoted herself entirely to lyric singing. She studied in Vienna ( Austria) at the University of Music & dramatic art. In 2012 she got her master's degree with congratulations. She particularly loves lieder & melodies interpretation, which she perfects with pianist Charles Spencer.

It is this musical universe that she chose to put forward in this first album entitled « Nuit exquise".

She distinguished herself in international competitions such as "Das lied" in Berlin under the aegis of Thomas Quasthoff or "Vokal genial", in Munich under the direction of Brigitte Fassbaender.

Alice Ferrière also has a solid stage experience. His velvety and very flexible voice of mezzo-soprano makes it an interpreter of choice for Baroque and classical operas (Händel, Mozart, Rossini..).

She has sung under the direction of conductors Wolfgang Schmid, Konrad Junghänel, Paul Daniel, Michael Schønwandt, Hugo Reyne and Daniel Montané.

She has performed often in Vienna – at the Musikverein, Konzerthaus, Gesellschaft für Musiktheater, Bank Austria Salon im alten Rathaus, LEO Theater – and in France, notably at the Bordeaux, Limoges, Toulon, and Montpellier Operas, and at festivals such as La Grange aux Pianos, the Laval Opera Festival, Saison, Jeunes Talents de la Salle Colonne, among others.

Alice Ferrière is an artist committed to giving back to her community. She has carried forward, primarily through the “Trajectoires” association that she founded in 2011, various initiatives to promote classical and lyrical music on her native island.

It is the german pianist Sascha El Mouissi who accompanies me in this adventure. I am very happy because it is a high quality partner, with whom I studied in the class of Charles Spencer and with whom I perform regularly in Duo for several years. Our complicity is obvious.

Sascha El Mouissi:

Born in Frankfurt, the German pianist is a specialist in the accompaniment of melody and lied. He formed-among others-in Vienna with pianist Charles Spencer at the University of music and dramatic art as well as at the Conservatory of Mainz.

He regularly gives concerts with singers such as Thomas Quasthoff, Ildikó Raimondi, Angelika Kirchschlager, Rafael Fingerlos, Sophie Rennert...)

He has performed at international festivals such as Lucerne Festival, Wiener Festwochen, the London Arts Festival, the Istanbul Music Festival...

He regularly plays in Vienna at the Konzerthaus, Musikverein, Salzburg Mozarteum but also in European opera houses (Lübeck, nice, Cologne, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden,...) or in Shanghai, Hong Kong.

He already has many recordings to his credit including Gramola, Oehms, Toccata classics, Coviello classics...

He teaches at the University of Graz.

Association "Trajectoires":

The Association  "Trajectoires" was founded in 2011 in order to promote classical arts, espacially lyrical music on Reunion island. Its action:  to organise lyrical concerts tour (Edition 2012, Edition 2018), to participate in the setting up of pedagogical actions or the promotion of projects of artists.
