MePowder

MePowder is a film about WePowder, its inspiring founder Maurice Mommen and our shared passion for freeriding.

About the project

The most accurate and up-to-date snowforecasts for the Alps has its origin in a country without any mountains. And the best freeride snowboard in ages is also a lowland native. Both are the brainchild of Dutchman Maurice Mommen aka MeteoMorris, WePowderon one hand and Powfinder on the other.

This personal film will tell my story on one hand, about how I discovered the WePowder community and what that means. But most of all it tells Maurice’s story, the one about WePowder and his newest venture: Powfinder. Our storylines intertwine in our quest for the deepest powder and the perfect turn. Join us on this journey, from accurate snow-forecasts to wild road trips, descents through snow packed forests and the daily routine back home.

I would like to show where the passion for deep powder originates and what thrives us in the search of fresh snow and why it makes us so happy.

It’s not my ambition to make the next ski-porn movie, it should go a lot deeper than that.

This movie will give an insight into the origins of WePowder.
It will show Maurice as the person behind MeteoMorris, how he's just a regular guy whose passion got him to where he is now. For me it's a way to translate what I love most into something tangible.
Above all I want to sketch a true to life image of what freeriding is, not avoiding the mundane.
It's not all instagram perfection.

As mentioned above, this won't be a movie where only the sickest lines and coolest tricks are being shown. The focus is the human aspect of it all which doesn't mean we won't be showing some magnificent freeride footage.

I rather see the film as an intimate portrait. Both Maurice and I are obsessed with freeriding but further more Maurice knows how to inspire thousands of people. How does he deal with that, how does his life look like in summer/aside from snowboarding?

It’s my intention to give the viewer an immersive aesthetic experience by also focussing on the (small) details. Only Maurice ties his laces like he does, he handles his board with chirurgical precision and his hands move up and down when he's coaching his junior soccer team (yes, he does that too). This will make the movie very intimate.

The mountains, the snow and the boarding will be brought to life and shot in an attractive way, also full of details, hand touching the snow, the edge cutting in, powder spraying up close.

The timeframe for shooting this documentary will be starting this winter season (winter 2019-2020), filming in the Alps and continue in spring and summer following Maurice in Holland and on one of his surftrips. In between we'll be shooting the interviews and a look behind the screens of the weatherforecasts. If all goes well (read; if it's a good winter and we get all the snowboarding shots done), the film should be ready by the next Freeride Film Festival in Amsterdam, november 2020, where all of you are of course welcome to come and watch the movie.

After that the movie will be screened at festivals worldwide, earning an international reputation.

What are the funds for?

Thanks for making this dream come true!

Making a movie isn't cheap unfortunately, certainly when you start driving around the Alps.

The funding will be used for the rental and purchase of special purpose camera gear and, when needed, a drone and opperator. Also we'll pay our hard working crew, book (cheap) hotels, cover travel costs and malke sure the postproduction runs smooth. Furthermore, we'll be clearing music licenses with the gathered budget.

Part of the funding also serves for the great rewards we're offering, with thanks to our 'gear sponsors': WePowder, Powfinder, PYUA, ABS and MIZU

You are co-responsible for bringing this movie to a good and happy ending.

THE REWARDS

Choosing a reward is simple, click on your choice (here on your right). Underneath you'll find a visual representation of the possibilities, just so you get an idea.

About the project owner

I'm a freelance director, based in Belgium, with a big passion for snowboarding. I've spent some seasons in the Alps but with the arrival of a baby boy a couple of years ago, things changed a little and the time spent in the mountains got drastically less. Luckily I discovered WePowder and so my precious time on the board are short memorable powder filled trips.

I mainly work in advertising but two years ago I finally combined my skills with the love for mountains and snow. This resulted in a short documentary about snowboarding in Iran: 'Persian Powder'.

With this next movie I want to stay closer to home and I want to take my time to put down a strong visually compelling story, and in doing so, share my passion with the world in an ispiring way.
