The World of Lovecraft

A documentary film about the fantastic universe of H.P. Lovecraft

  • Two renowned filmmakers have accepted to participate in the "World of Lovecraft"

Living in an era where the art of film has become increasingly important in popular culture, we are fortunate that two great fantasy filmmakers have accepted to participate in our project:

    Christophe Gans

He has directed Silent Hill, Brotherhood of the Wolf and Necronomicon - the Drowned, which was inspired by Lovecraft's work.

    Marc Caro

He has directed Délicatessen, The City of Lost Children

Today we have attained 92% of our financial target. Just 3 days remain to reach 100%. Don't hesitate to share this information as widely as possible.

  • S.T. Joshi openly supports "The World of Lovecraft"

S.T. Joshi is the author of the famous biography of Lovecraft which was published in 1996 and received both the Bram Stoker award and the British Fantasy award. It was expanded and re-published in 2010 under the title I Am Providence: The Life and Times of H. P. Lovecraft, then translated into French, by a team under the supervision of Christophe Thill in 2019. S.T. Joshi has also written many critical works on Lovecraft (H. P. Lovecraft and Lovecraft Criticism: An Annotated Bibliography, H. P. Lovecraft: The Decline of the West, An Index to the Selected Letters of H. P. Lovecraft...)

Supportive of our project, S.T. Joshi has written the following message to Gilles Menegaldo, who will collaborate in making "The World of Lovecraft" and will lead the interviews:

"I wholeheartedly support this endeavour by Gilles Menegaldo. For decades he has been one of the most perspicacious commentators on Lovecraft, and I am confident that the documentary he is preparing will be a revelation to Lovecraft's many devotees around the world. This venture deserves everyone's support."--S. T. Joshi

Hereunder is a short video extract where S.T. Joshi speaks about fear according to H.P. Lovecraft:

  • 85% of the objective reached!

Today we have reached 85% of our financial target. We thank you for this!

The raised funds will allow us to shoot most of the film. In particular, they will enable to create a scale model of the fantastic library where the major part of the investigation will take place. This model will be designed by famous illustrator Nicolas Fructus.

Additional contributions will help us edit the film and possibly shoot additional sequences in New England, the region where Lovecraft lived and where the action of some of his books takes place (“The Case of Charles Dexter Ward”, “The Call of Cthulhu”, “The Shadow over Innsmouth”, ...)

Do not hesitate to share this information as widely as possible.

  • S.T. Joshi show us Henry Anthony Wilcox's house in "The Call of Cthulhu"

To give you a sample of what to expect, hereafter is a short film extract in which S.T. Joshi shows us Fleur-de-lys Studios in Providence, Rhodes Island. It is the house of Henry Anthony Wilcox, the main character in H.P. Lovecraft's famous short story The Call of Cthulhu.

Today, we reached 85% of our objective. Still 6 days left to reach 100%. Do not hesitate to share the information as widely as possible so that this film can exist!

  • The famous illustrator Jean Michel Nicollet supports "The World of Lovecraft"

The famous illustrator Jean Michel Nicollet, known in particular for his covers of the editions Néo, Titres/SF, Folio Junior, Chair de Poule, but also for his illustrated works (Brian Lumley’s Abominable Cthulhu, H.P. Lovecraft - The Novel of his Life, Ténébreuses Affaires, ...), supports the World of Lovecraft and will participate in the film.

Hereafter is his correspondence with Gilles Menegaldo, who will lead the interviews.

    Paris, January 15, 2020
    Dear Gilles,

in response to your letter, please receive all my best wishes of health and success for this new year 2020. I strongly support this project on Lovecraft which seems to me very interesting and in which I will be very happy to participate. Best regards.
