Late-medieval re-enactment camp

camp + workshops

About the project

The count of Egmont, Lord of Zottegem, was decapitated on June 5th, 1568 on the Great Market in Brussels. In 2018 this is 450 years ago, an ideal opportunity for a Commemorative Year.

During the weekend from September 14th to 16th, this year full of festivities will be closed by a great apotheosis.

Cultuurwerking Sotteghem takes care of two of the three dimensions of this final apotheosis.

Around Egmont's castle the organisation De Macekliers from Zottegem will create a flower carpet, such as the one they created in 1968 for the 400th commemoration.

On Sunday afternoon, various theater-, music and gym clubs from Zottegem will evocate ten scenes from the life of the count, under the coordination of Cultuurwerking Sotteghem.

... and behind the castle, Cultuurwerking Sotteghem will let the re-enactors of the "Guild of the Vagants" install a 4-days medieval re-enactment camp.

This crowdfunding project is started to finance the third pillar of our unforgetable festivities weekend.

For this purpose we contacted the forenamed re-enactors, amongst which many originating from Zottegem.

They offer us a full package, containing the following items:

1. lively 15th century camp with about ten tents, awnings and canopies, colorful and attractively concipiated. The whole day there is medieval cooking and the camp inhabitants explain to the visitors what medieval camp life was all about.

2. continuous and interactive 15th century acts

_________________________________________________________________________

This project attempts, in a first phase, to finance (item1.) this medieval camp (free access), and (item 3.) the workshops offered by the re-enactors (subscription €5 per workshop)

Once this goal will be achieved, we also want to address the second challenge, by trying to finance the interative acts (item 2.) and the medieval crafts and merchants (item 4.).

And if you guys out there still like us after that, we will finally try to cater for the full contact tournament (item 5).

Obviously, all crowdfunders are expected at the festivities !!!

What are the funds for?

The financing of this offering will be done in three phases, as follows:

1. lively 15th century camp with 15th century workshops                                           5000 €

2. continuous and interactive 15th century acts +  medieval crafts/merchants           4000 €

3. full contact tournament                                                                                            1000 €

In this first phase of our crowdfunding campaign we try to collect the money necessary to allow the Reysighers to set camp in Zottegem (item 1.) and to fascinate young and old during our entire "Egmont-evocation" weekend with their exciting medieval workshops (item 3.).

About the project owner

Our organisation Cultuurwerking Sotteghem wants to offer a forum for the gathering of various good ideas for cultural activities, and the promotion of collaboration in larger events.

As such, we recently collaborated with the brewery Van Den Bossche from Sint-Lievens-Esse (Pater Lieven), the beer-club BierLiefhebbers van de EgmontStede (BLES) and the Hoevebrouwers from around Zottegem, and the Weert Brouwschuur to create an Egmont Horne beer pack. (on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/CultuurWerkingSotteghem/ you can find the necessary details, in case you'd like to buy one of those collectors items ;-) The pack costs € 20)
