Documentary - series of your childhood

Relive your most beautiful memories of the 80's-90's

About the project

We have reached the first tier! We are excited about the future!

As you know, initially the documentary will be exclusively reserved for contributors, it will become a precious and unique object (even more precious than Frodo's ring). Therefore, this is a unique opportunity that may not come up again, so join us on this wonderful adventure!

Your contributions and the different tiers will allow us to improve the quality of the documentary, meet professionals (translators, lighting designers, editors...), stars and allow us to provide you with exclusive content!

NEXT TIER = 10 000€!

If the campaign reaches 200%, exclusive content will be added! The bigger the gauge, the more exceptional the documentary will be! Imagine the documentary evolving to the rhythm of the original music of the famous, Shuki Levy and Haïm Saban!

Did you know that young French creators are hiding behind the cartoons Ulysses 31, The Mysterious Cities Of Gold, Inspector Gadget, The Littles, Heathcliff & the Catillac Cats, Popples, Care Bears, M.A.S.K. or even Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors?

At the dawn of the eighties, more than thirty years ago, they were set on a wild bet: to give life to heroes born of their imagination. Heroes who will take them around the world and who will make their new company, D.I.C. (Diffusion, Information, Communication), one of the most powerful in the world of animation.

It is enough to see an extract, open credits, or even a toy, to revive memories of our childhood. And that's why we want to tell this incredible story in a 60-minute documentary (English subtitles).

To achieve this, we will undertake a trip around the world and meet those who have made us dream so much, among them will be the legend Jean Chalopin (creator of studio DIC), the incredible Haim Saban (open credits of Starsky & Hutch, Grendizer, The Mysterious Cities of Gold) and his friends Shuki Levy and Noam. The magician Bernard Deyries (director of Ulysses 31, Jayce, M.A.S.K., The Mysterious Cities of Gold.), the inescapable Jean Barbaud (Inspector Gadget, Once Upon a time...), Andy Heyward, one of the creators of Inspector Gadget and the all-powerful Hollywood producer Yuji Nunokawa, producer and creator of Studio Pierrot (Nils Holgersson, The Mysterious Cities of Gold, Creamy Mami the Magic Angel, Max et compagnie, Lamu, Naruto.). The scriptwriters, animators and directors of the greatest current movies and series. And to think that they started at the DIC studio.

We invite you to join us for this exciting adventure!

About the project owner

Brought up with these series since our very young age, we found it curious to find the names of French, Japanese and American artists in the credits of a French series.

Later on, we discovered that Ulysses 31, The Mysterious Cities of Gold and Inspector Gadget were co-productions. Since then, our insatiable passion for these series has pushed us to do research to find the artists who have populated our imagination. We wanted to know more: to let them reveal the secrets of such collaboration!

Thus, in 1995, we embarked on a long-journalistic work. These years of research have been punctuated by moments of doubt and questioning. Were we going to find enough protagonists? What had happened to the production equipment 20 years later? We had to fight to gather the documentation scattered all over the planet, to find the artists, to obtain the authorisations to use the images, in short, painstaking work.

After 17 years of research and testimonies collected in France, Luxembourg, the United States, Japan and China, we published a book in 2012 entitled: “Les séries de notre enfance”(series of our childhood), thanks to crowdfunding on Ulule https://fr.ulule.com/dic / and our Facebook community.

Today, we think it is very important that the greatest number of viewers discover this beautiful story that has accompanied us all our life. We want them to meet these beautiful people who have dazzled us both with their hearts and their courage. We would like this documentary to open up to the world and to be international in order to show that multicultural collaborations are enriching at all levels.

This documentary will also show behind the scenes of cartoons between 1978 and 2000, a decisive period for the development of animation. And through it, the emergence in Europe of Japanese animation and the French breakthrough on American soil until they eventually dethroned the giants Disney and Hanna Barbera.

We will end with these few words that may have been spoken by Jean Chalopin:

"All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them" – Walt Disney
