Donkey Caravan

Environmental awareness project

About the project

 THE PROJECT

Donkey Caravan is an itinerant initiative that was born 15 years ago. It brings together young volunteers from all the world and donkeys to develop an environmental awareness program. For this they perform a series of street shows, recycling workshops, theatrical performances, music... each year during 3 weeks of August in Spain. In 2018 it will be in Alicante's area.

International experience in non-formal education and volunteering in support of local projects, in which 20 young people from different nationalities prepare during 20 days a street play in a humorous way with an environmental content and citizen participation. It will revolve around the donkey as an allegory of the rural and traditional world, where there was a communion between man and nature.

 GOAL

The performance aims to entertain and educate on environmental issues and citizen participation, offering an alternative summer leisure activity in the rural world. Also, it is desired that it serve to publicize the locations through which the participants pass, thus promoting greater knowledge of the rural world.

  • Sensitization

It allows dealing with any type of conflicting message that is friendly and can act as an occasional politician to anyone.

  • Importance of Youth in decision making

It is the young participants who decide to create a reflection on the generational political problem that exists in Europe.

  • Artistic skills

It is a project for young amateur artists, in which they develop and use their artistic skills to prepare all performances.

  • Impact

It develops the local activity promoting non-traditional leisure activities in rural areas and / or during the holiday period, in which it promotes reflection among participants, locals and tourists.

What are the funds for?

This project which exists for several years is in deficit. In order to continue this great adventure we are looking for funding.

The money will be used to

  1. Partially renew the sound equipment and instruments.
  2. Carry out a local communication campaign about performances.
  3. Cover the organization costs.It requires a full-time volunteer for 3 months, we want to be able to finance the gas costs necessary to find local partners who will host the show and ancillary costs;
  4. Cover part of the volunteers' food costs during the project. (Half of which is usually paid by the local partners).

If more money is collected, it will be used to provide better meals for the volunteers and the maintenance of donkeys that we protect. De Amicitia will not use this money for other projects.

About the project owner

De Amicitia is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation without political affiliation, registered since 1998 in the Spanish National Registry of Associations with N°164471 and CIF G82128281.

It was originally born as a consequence of the lack of environmental advice specifically dedicated to NGOs. There are numerous conservation NGOs working on environmental defense through public acts and protest against aggression against nature, but are inoperative at the time of reporting and go to the courts for different reasons: its members are not experts in environmental law and many times they do not know the regulations; most specialized lawyers work for private companies; Spanish Justice, for different reasons, does not always rigorously apply the strict European regulations.

In addition we think that the realization of voluntary actions on spaces over which there is a jurisdictional process prevents it from vanishing and forgetting and offers the public a much more friendly and constructive side of environmentalism.

Our mission is to promote and support: protection and conservation of theenvironment, rural development, sustainable development, social inclusion, peace and Human Rights.
