Bart Ramakers' Divine Comedy

A bright new exhibition and art calendar

About the project

Reserve your copy of the calendar, a book or a photo and help us to reach 210% and gather 10.375 euro, so the exposition of 8 XXL photographs in de Schipperskapel Brugge will be possible!

Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to produce huge altarpiece paintings à la Rembrandt and Rubens. That's what I'm doing now, photographing tableau vivants with friends and sympathisers.

"Bart Ramakers' Divine Comedy" tells in 8 images the story of a number of Gods from different religions, who meet and behave like humans: they quarrel, fall in love, fight ...  whether they come from the Olympus, from Karnak, from Scandinavia, India or Heaven. The central figure happens to be Jesus, a woman that will save us all by her love - if Mephisto doesn't prevent her from doing so that is.

"A Divine Comedy" is a series of art photographs and a calendar at the same time. A first exhibition of the colorful art photographs on XXL size opens October 7th at 19:00 in de Schipperskapel, Komvest 38 Brugge. After that, you can visit the images at Galerie Emilie Dujat, Brussels (opening night December 1st). The luxurious calendar (42 x 59,4 cm) will be ready for distribution on October 18th (although I hope to bring some copies to the opening event already!).

Your support is crucial for the production of this exhibition and calendar!

What are the funds for?

A lot of friends and fans volunteered to make this series a succes by modelling, photographing and helping for free. The printing of the calendar is even sponsored by masterprinters Lamine from Herent. Nevertheless, mounting an exhibition and publishing a calendar requires a lot of ducados for practical issues such as: costumes, make-up and hairstyling, transport, catering, lodging, production of the diasecs for the exposition, packaging, some of the professional model's fees, etc.

With the 4950 € gathered till now, I'm able to finance the printing and distribution costs of the calendar! If we raise 10.375 euro or more, I can print the works on XXL size (1m16 x 1m54 and larger) and present them as diasecs in the Schipperskapel in Brugge, and later in Galérie Emilie Dujat (opening night December 1st 18:00) and other galleries and institutions in Belgium and France. I will be glad to welcome you there and give you some explanation personally.

About the project owner

" One thing is certain, Bart Ramakers has a sense of decorum and he knows his classics ; the myths he uses - some will say abuses - and bends them to his will. He knows the small and the known edges of the ancient gods, processes them and puts them under the skin of his images. Some will suggest " the gods must be crazy " when they stand in front of his photos. This game with the cultural humus of our civilization sometimes derails in a timeless fresco full of references, "Verdichtungen" and personal interpretations. Time after time he is one step ahead of reality. " (Johan van Cauwenberge, Klara)
