Moria: Europe's biggest "HOTSPOT"

52 mn to live with the refugees of the Moria camp on Lesbos island (Greece) during the Covid-19 crisis

About the project

WHAT IS A HOTSPOT? - "Whether they are called 'HOTSPOTS', 'camps' or 'reception centres', these centres are made to distinguish migrants who are entitled to asylum in the  European Union from those called 'economic' migrants who are not entitled to refugee status under the Geneva Convention"

- Le Nouvel Observateur - September, 2015

Moria Camp on Lesbos Island (Greece) is Europe's largest "HOTSPOT" where more than 18,000 refugees survive. During the health crisis, the refugees found themselves confined in hell, abandoned by all.

To spread hope through a documentary film is the project of Maurice Joyeux, a Jesuit member of the « Task Force Mission et Identité » of JRS International (Service Jésuite des Réfugiés), Mortaza Behboudi, an Afghan journalist who has been a refugee in France for five years and Laurence Monroe film director who has just joined them on-site. Maurice and Mortaza arrived at the camp at the beginning of the coronavirus crisis to give a voice to its occupants.

A 52' documentary film to live with the refugees, to hear their stories, to witness their fraternity, their creativity and also to see what is happening here, serious but great.

As a sign of hope: the children of Moria fly Afghan kites, listen to them!

About the project owner

Maurice Joyeux is currently, and since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis, on the Moria camp in Lesbos. His last action before leaving the camp is to make a film.
He is going to leave Lesbos but this film will allow us to stay in touch with the refugees and give them a voice.

***

A few words in french from Maurice Joyeux sj :
