Antonia l'enchanteresse

A documentary film by Denis Gerault

About the project

Antonia l'enchanteresse would be a documentary film directed by Denis Gerault.

A team of British researchers at the Imperial College of London undertook a study of one hundred and ninety-three volunteers from five English choirs. Fifty of them knew they had cancer. This study demonstrated that singing enhances immune defenses and reduces inflammation. It is well suited for certain forms of cancer or for depressive subjects.

Some people do not fail to surprise us and impress us. Such is the case of Antonia Bosco, vocalist and professional actress, whose advanced cancer was diagnosed and required an urgent operation. A posteriori, the anesthesiologist described the intervention as a "major project". The hospitalization was followed by a long stay in a follow-up care clinic in the Paris area. Antonia reflected and wondered how she was going to "be able to stand in the four walls of her room for months." She quickly discarded writing and considered that singing had always accompanied her ever since her childhood to finally become a professional activity. She proposed, within the clinic, to develop a singing workshop. Her proposal is welcomed with enthusiasm. She managed to include in her workshop, patients and their relatives, doctors, nurses, physiotherapists who all participated with the same fervour. She animated it with great generosity, attention, skill and talent. Antonia, patient among the other patients, proposed an action that complements the clinical action of the medical and care team. Unquestionably, Antonia's initiative is strong, beautiful and innovative.

Far from being anxious, our film will show how participants were given a chance to express themselves in a workshop that reveals a touching humanity.

What are the funds for?

We are looking for fundings so that we can edit the film, meaning that we need to hire and pay an editor, we have to rent editing materiel, we also have to acquire some musical rights, etc.

The movie has mostly, already been shot.
