Foster children are one of the most under-served populations in the United States, especially in California. Imagine being passed from home to home all your life-even if your physical needs are being met, chances are no one has the resources to pay attention to your emotional/psychological development. And while we can't necessarily provide licensed psychological therapy, art has been proven to help children (and adults) sort through their troubles and have a good time!
All too often their circumstances are dictated beyond the realm of their control, so we have decided to create a place where kids can tell their stories from their own perspectives. However our classes are not exclusive to foster children, and we welcome children from all backgrounds. Each class we provide some background information on the chosen art form, instructional guidance, and then let the creative sparks fly!

What are the funds for?
In an attempt to make these environments more accessible to the community, we have decided to make them free for all participants. This does mean, however, that we rely on donations to provide our students with necessary supplies. We would also like the students to be able to take these methods and techniques and incorporate them into their daily lives, so our goal is to raise enough money to let the students keep some of the supplies.
All of the money raised will go toward providing art supplies (paint brushes, canvasses, sketch books, camera film, etc.) and necessary items for the students themselves.

About the project owner
We are a coalition of college and high school students from various academic backgrounds (music, film, child development, medicine, etc.) that would like to put our skills to use. We also want to use our summers for something more than hanging out at the beach :)
Our biggest desire is to let these kids tell their own stories and perhaps use their art to relate their past and their dreams to others.
