About

At first, Jajaclub may have been just an excuse to get together with friends around a common passion: music. The goal was to discover new songs and rarities not heard on traditional radio stations.

In 2005, we took the plunge and created JajaClub, a free webradio which broadcasts good music online www.jajaclub.net. Every two months, we release a new edition. A new what? A new edition, you heard me! It means that we regularly publish a series of eclectic and thematic playlists.

When interviewing people on the street at the beginning of the radio, an old man gave us the explanation about where the name Jajaclub came from. “JajaClub,” he said. “It's a weird and funny animal, isn't it?” Well... maybe it was at the time. We used to knock on fire extinguishers with the back of our spoons to use the sound as an ambiance in our “série noire” radio drama...

Since then, we grew up but we have stuck to this craftsman attitude with a more professional approach. Little by little, without a penny, we’ve succeeded in building an underground and renown website through strong visual identity, original sound creations and eclectic music selections.

Today, Jajaclub is also a DJ crew (JajaClub Sound System) which has people dancing all night long in Parisian bars such as Café Chéri(e)Les Trois Baudets or l’International.

JajaClub vs De Perdidos al Rio, "Noche De Lluvia", L'International (Paris), 05/06/2011.

And it's a Facebook page as well JajaClub Entertainment ! You can find a new song to listen to every day. Every other week, our bartender gathers the 5 best songs plus a bonus track, puts them in a Cocktail we served you on the rocks.

Yup, that's Jajaclub!

What are the funds for?

1. Rebuild the website ($2000)

The majority of the money will be used to completely rebuild the website so we can bring free and quality service to our listeners.

After six years of use, our website is a bit old-fashioned and it's time to give it new foundations according to today's technology. Also, we would like to achieve the improvements that our listeners have been asking for a while (and we can’t agree more). For example:

  • Integrate the playlists inside the player so that the listener can be aware of the song he is listening to at any time.
  • Create more categories so that the listener can easily can easily navigate through the content in the website.
  • Create an easy-to-use administration interface so that we can update the website and the podcast.

How we will use the money :

Back office :
Manage the pages (home, presentation, links, mixes, reports and videos updates) + contacts and newsletter: $800
Creating a standard newsletter including RSS flows, Podcast and Sitemap : $130

Front office :                                                                                                                                Web Development : creation of Flash content (player, pages etc) : $870
Search engines optimization : $200

2. Creating means of communication ($300)

"Heys guys! Do you have any postcards or stickers that I can bring home?" Do you know how many times this question has been asked to us during JaJaClub parties? Part of the money will be used to print all those sticky or non sticky JaJaClub promo goods.

3. Setting up a working capital for the organization ($200)

JajaClub is not a buisness, we are all volunteers. This extra money will allow us to do the maintenance, to update the website and to organize future JajaClub events.

THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

About the project owner

Jajaclub is a collective project and we want to introduce you to all the people backstage, one by one.

 Ol' Movie

In civilian life, Ol' Movie a.k.a François Le Nouene is a director and a video editor specializing in cultural events. He takes his video camera to Avignon to film plays, direct movies and commercials for music labels, as well as publishing companies. He plays the piano when he can and his love for music led him to set up diverse projects mixing all kinds of art. Now that he is settled in the quiet mountains of the Alps, he regularly comes back to Paris to keep in touch with human beings and develop projects. He created Jajaclub in 2005 and now continues the adventure with a more collective approach.

Mister J

He is a video editor, a ping-pong player and a writer. Mister J a.k.a. Joël Foulet spreads the JajaClub news all over the world (triple ha!). From New York to Izmir, and throughout Asia, everywhere he goes, our man distributes little pieces of paper with "www.jajaclub.net Check it out!" written on it. As a teenager, he first listened to some indie rock before learning about all kind of genres though his travels. Since 2005, wherever he is, he sends his eclectic and thematic mixes to JajaClub such as "Assurancetoumix", "the Café-crème", "Heureux Qui Comme Bourvil ("Happy Like Bourvil") or "the Ping-Pong Mix". He looks forward to the creation of JajaClub business cards.

Barouf

In real life, Barouf is Philippe Dias. He is an architect, a casual painter, a party animal and a cat lover. JajaClub is his breath of fresh air, a great way to meet people and a super ice-breaker with the ladies. More than that, Jajaclub is the only music instrument he can play, even though he’s the guy always surrounded by musicians. He has been listening to hip-hop music for 20 years. Through this music, he’s explored other styles through samples and diverse influences. He is the graphic designer master chief and was one of the first JajaClub members. Every session, he provides an eclectic mix, a block party hip-hop mix and a few surprises. He is also part of the Jajaclub Sound System together with Mr Smoking S.

Smoking S

Smoking S. a.k.a Simon Rico is a journalist version 2.0, who likes to document his visits throughout the world with his computer. Like every teenager living in the suburbs, he did what he could to have some fun by skateboarding (Big up Santa Cruz!), playing saxophone and making short-movies with friends. He played in a reggae/funk band a couple of years, but then realized he’d rather choose the tunes than try playing them. He is now a big collector of rarities and cheesy songs from the sixties that he picks up here and there. Well, he listens to everything that makes girls dance. Since the very start of the JajaClub, he offers music selections of all kinds to JajaClub such as "global grooves", "French Pop", Funk, Reggae, Boogaloo & more. Smoking S. does not smoke cigarettes.

Puppa

Settled in Madrid, Clément Gripoix, a.k.a Puppa is an architect. Easy-going during the day, at night, this founding member of JajaClub turns into a man capable of all eccentricities. He is currently interested in urban planning issues focusing on social aspects, but likes to chill out listening to his Serge Gainsbourg, Philippe Katerine, Ninja tunes and  Spanish rock vinyls. What's his problem? Not being able to decide which title he will give to his JajaClub mixes. This food and wine lover often goes for a name related with flesh.

Nonette

Manon Kleynjans, also knows as Nonette, was nourrished in music. Raised by a mother who burned a 33 arabic phonetic record in 83, a saxophonist in a punk rock band, a bassist brother in a reggae band, a violonist grand mother who taught her music theory and classical piano every wednesday; altought it is probably her oncle and god father who probably influenced her the most. From indian music tapes in Belleville chosen for their cover, to traditional slavonic singing and bulerias, he edited his selections and offered them to her for Christmas. Later, over his austral escapes, she is now doing the same: she tracks, discovers and exchanges little tresors then puts them together and contributes this way to our very dear Jajaclub radio

Maeva

Maeva (Gomez) works in communication. Before putting JajaClub jingles between the songs of her JajaClub mix "From Lost To the River", she used to make mix tapes thanks to her classic double tape recorder. Later, she found out about Fip (a French radio station), the Internet and CD burners. These technological developments allowed Maeva to innovate with her musical compilations. She could easily copy and burn tunes on CDs for her friends who could enjoy them on their Hi-Fi systems. Now that songs are digital files, everyone can enjoy her music selections on JajaClub dot net, from Iberian folk music to ukulele rock'n'roll and tonic swing music. Everything in stereo of course !
