Focale Alternative Magazine

Several photography magazines exist in print, and many essentially put an emphasis on the material without prioritising the artistic direction or the journalism of its authors. It is by taking an intuitive approach, that highlights and promotes photography, that the paper version of Focale Alternative was created. 

Focale Alternative Magazine already exists as a free monthly online magazine, launched two years ago and the 26th online edition was put up in May 2012. With a reader base of on average 5000 people, it seemed important to us to put forward a quality version of the magazine in print.

In line with the fundamental objectives of ‘’FA Magazine’’, this review paper will be unprecedented in both form and content. It will be an extension to the figures from our online version.

The Caravan Collective

The feature for this edition is a photographic collective called ‘Caravan’.  A young generation of contemporary photographers, they have participated in many events around the world and the quality of the authors is indisputable.

We explore the contemporary world through photography by offering an open narrative on the human experience and realities. Our images are intended as tools of reflection that allow us to see, feel, know and recognise.

I am Phillipe Reale, 30 years old and passionate about the photographic image. The idea of the photography magazine was an excuse to satisfy my curiosity about the process of writers and photojournalists. I am always taking breaks from photography in order to learn from the convivial exchanges that FA magazine has brought me over the years.

 Like any adventure, the web version of ‘’Focale Alternative Magazine’’ has grown and improved during its two years of existence. In order to learn more about the birth and evolution and to take a behind the scenes look at the ‘FA’ project during its first year of existence, an interactive iBook designed for the iPad was made.
