I am so looking forward to real theater seats. I saw Tree of Life at 5 Points a few weeks ago, and my sore butt was quite the distraction! I love the idea of paring certain foods with certain movies, too. Genius! I wish you all the best.

shanadavidgmailcom
shanadavidgmailcom said 2011n Aug. 23, 2011

@schrothie Whew! And that film required all the concentration you could muster. I wonder what food we'd pair with Tree of Life. Something nostalgic, that looks good in soft, hazy light..... Cotton Candy?

greenplan
greenplan said 2011n Aug. 31, 2011

I am excited about this project - and the new seats (I agree with schrothie!) I had to get involved - my first job was as an usher at the 5 Points the summer of 1968, the movie was "2001: A Space Odyssey"!

Will the theater still be available for use by outside organizations who want to show special movies as fund and awareness raisers?

purplebike

shanadavidgmailcom
shanadavidgmailcom said 2011n Aug. 31, 2011

@joe Cross your fingers! Cross your toes! Cross your eyes! No, they'll get stuck like that.

@greenplan Absolutely, we'll continue to be available for venue rentals. With the improvements to the auditorium and new catering options available because of the kitchen installation we expect those special interest films will be even more popular.

@purplebike Thanks! Running this campaign has reminded us that Jacksonville feels a lot like home.

I am very excited and believe this project could be transformative for 5 Points

shirrel-rhoades
shirrel-rhoades said 2011n Sept. 11, 2011

Ah, I remember the 5 Points well. Back in the mid-'60s I was the film critic for the Florida Times Union and Sheldon Mandell was the theater's manager. Being a youthful 25-years-old guy at the time, the elderly ticket booth lady once challenged my movie reviewer's credentials, saying I wasn't allowed to use my father's pass. I had to call Sheldon. I screened 2001 Space Odyssey there, me the only person in the auditorium watching the movie. Saviung it is a worthy project.

Hi Kutscher,

Did you receive an email from us requesting your mailing address? Please let me know.

@greenplan
The 5 Points Theatre will always be the 5 Points Theatre. Sun-Ray Cinema is a new company -- on a bigger scale think of AMC with their theatres at Orange Park and Regency (and a gazillion other places). We are a new business making the necessary investments to keep the 5 Points Theatre from becoming the new 5 Points Walgreens.

Experience a date at the new 5 Points Theatre on us! Twenty five buckaroos gets you two movie tickets to the regular screening of your choice and couple of popcorns. And yes, we totally use real butter. Also, get ready to point to the screen and shout, "That's me!" during our preshow, including our original trailers like the one here, when your name appears along with all other sponsors of the project before every film screening

***New Reward!***
European Street Cafe and Intuition Ale Taproom are offering a free short draft beer with a sponsorship at this level. Just print out your confirmation from Ulule and present it to your friendly bartender. That's before you even get charged $25, you know? Also Susan Davis of Tania's Hair Studio (our favorite stylist) is giving free cuts and other discounts to supporters.

For $100 or more:
You know you're gonna love this place. Just go ahead and pledge $100 and you'll get ten movie tickets and popcorn for all your visits. Go to ten screenings solo, or show up once with nine of your grateful friends. Plus you get the two free tickets listed above, so really this is twelve tickets and twelve popcorns. Quelle value!
6
For $250 or more:
Before the theater opens officially to the public we'll be having a soft opening kickoff party with a film screening and access to our full menu. Putting in a hard earned $250 earns you two tickets to this event, plus all the above perks.
3
For $500 or more:
Thinking you're gonna be a regular at the 5 Points Theatre? We'll keep a personalized mug or wine glass behind the counter for you at all times and fill it up gratis at your beck and call. Everyone looks cooler drinking from a cup with their name on it. This, plus all the above perks for a donation of $500.

Comic Book author Peter David is donating original, autographed comic art from his stories to sponsors at this level. Visit (http://www.peterdavid.net/index.php/2011/09/08/shanas-attempt-to-refurbish-a-movie-theater/) for more info

For $5000 or more:
So have you ever showed up for opening night of a movie only to find that you and your buddy can't sit together? Or do you like to arrive fashionably late but don't want to take those last two seats in the front row? Pledge $5000 and you'll be able to call our theatre hotline and have your choice of seats reserved and guarded by our vicious dog Snoopy. OK, the part about the dog is made up, we'll hang a little sign that'll keep those seats safe and sound until your arrival. This pledge also includes all rewards listed above.
0
For $10000 or more:
Donating at the $10,000 level gets you all of the above rewards plus your own private screening of the film of your choice for up to 300 people, catered by the kitchen that you so generously helped to build. Private screenings are a great way to throw a memorable holiday gathering, birthday bash, unique wedding reception, or to show your employees how much you appreciate them. We'll work with you to customize your event, for example building a slideshow featuring your own photos and music, customizing the menu to your needs, and darn near anything else you can think of.
0
For $10001 or more:
We're open to tailoring rewards to donors at all levels. This is a great opportunity for businesses who want to get a head start by buying on-screen ads in bulk at a steeply discounted rate, folks who can get their Christmas shopping done early by purchasing a stack of tickets to give as gifts, or a chance to get nearly anything your little heart desires out of your new, neighborhood theater. Contact us to talk turkey.

Also if you're considering throwing down for, say, a lifetime of movie tickets but want to see the fine details in the business plan just drop a line and we'll send it your way.
